31 Letters – Letter #8

To: Old Grambling, Dear Grambling - Part 2

From: Me
Old Grambling, dear Grambling,
We love thee, dear old Grambling
We're loyal to thee, our dear old School,
We'll fight for thee for evermore.
And when life's game is fought and won,
The hills will ring with victory's song.
Old Grambling, dear Grambling,
We love thee, dear old Grambling.
Old Grambling, dear Grambling,
We love thee, dear old Grambling
Long may thee stand 'til all the land
Has felt the worth of thy great hand.
And when thy sons to battle go,
The hills will ring from shore to shore.
Old Grambling, dear Grambling,
We love thee, dear Old Grambling.

Romans 12:16-19
16 Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!
17 Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,
“I will take revenge;
    I will pay them back,”
    says the Lord.

1 Corinthians 13:1-8
13 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing.
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

It’s hard to believe some of the things that I have read on the social media sites were written by Gramblinites.  What type of example are we setting for the future generations?

In Part 1, I talked about leaving a legacy.  In order to leave a legacy, it requires you leaving something behind.  Something that never gets old is money.  Big money, little money, it’s all money.  I've heard quite a few people complain about not knowing how the funds collected will be utilized, so they choose not to give.  I can understand where you’re coming from, but the only way to find out is to get involved.  Join an alumni chapter.  Become a season ticket holder.  Inquire about the various foundations that give back to specific groups around campus.  Knowledge is power.  Educate yourself about grant writing. Perhaps you could write the next grant for the university.

Another way to leave something for future generations is to speak positively about your school.  If I was in junior high or high school right now reading some of the disheartening, outlandish, and idiotic remarks by adults, I would choose another school to attend.

It is our Responsibility to stick together not just when things are going good, but also during the times of discomfort.

I have been a Grambling fan since I attended my first game with my father over twenty-five years ago. Rain, shine, sleet, or snow I’ll be there supporting my team, my school, my city!

We have to learn to encourage ourselves.  The last thing you can do is kick someone when they are down.  That is a sign of disrespect. Don’t turn away from your brother when he is defeated or discouraged. No! Show him some LOVE for God is LOVE.

Don’t worry. There will be those who choose to stay home if the weather isn't fair, however, the true family endures the cold (literally), the rain, the sleet, the snow, the defeat until the ‘hills ring with victory’s song’.  Old Grambling, dear Grambling. We love thee dear, old Grambling.

Be blessed,

Christy
